Veiled Virgin

St. John's, Newfoundland

Wednesday we were in St. John’s, Newfoundland.
We have been here before but enjoyed another
nice day.

We happened to go into the Anglican Church and
the Basilica at the right time and enjoyed an
informative, historical private tour at both. We
also visited a convent to see a statue (bust) of
the Veiled Virgin.

St. Anthony

St. Anthony

After another sea day we were in St. Anthony,
Newfoundland on Monday. We enjoyed
Wonderful refreshments at the local church.
I tried partridge berry jelly for the first time
(never heard of it before) and it was delicious,
just the right tartness. We also had a pastry
made from partridge berries and it too was
scrumptious.

We saw a fire fighting airplane memorial which
Was interesting. I don’t ever remember seeing
a fire fighting plane.

We visited a hospital which had a rotunda
entrance with beautiful murals by an artist
named Bonet.

Qaqortoq

On Sunday we were in Qaqortoq, Greenland. It was
very different from our last tip here in 2008. I don’t
know if it’s no longer a novelty or because it was
Sunday but it was very quiet and we saw few locals.
In 2008 they had entertainment and refreshments
at school, kindergarten and church.

According to Bruce (Cruise Director) and
Barbara (On Shore Location Guide) who
both have done this trip many times, this was
the best weather they had ever seen at
